Solar storm could light up the sky over U.S. tonight: How to see the Northern Lights  A solar storm is due to reach Earth tonight, and it might just light up the skies near you. If you live in the northern tier of the U.S., look upwards Thursday and Friday and you could spot the northern lights. On Monday, the sun belched out a slew of charged particles in a moderate solar flare. These particles are now making their way towards Earth.   - Newsweek

‘Cars Are to Us What Books Are to Amazon,’ Uber CEO Says  Ultimately, Uber’s business is getting people from “point A to point B,” he said at a Goldman Sachs-hosted event on Wednesday. Achieving such goals means the company will continue to lose money, he acknowledged, a day after Uber reported a loss of $4.5 billion for 2017 on $7.5 billion in net revenue. To drive home his point, Khosrowshahi compared Uber to Amazon on more than one occasion. While Amazon had almost $178 billion in sales in 2017, net income was $2.24 billion. “Cars are to us what books are to Amazon,” he said. Khosrowshahi said that by 2023, he could imagine Uber providing the entire transportation network for a city.  - Bloomberg

Ikea Wants To Replace Your Crappy Posters With Real Art  While Ikea’s budget prints currently leave a lot to be desired, that’s soon to change. The Scandinavian furniture giant has signed a deal with camera manufacturer Hasselblad, to feature eight new prints by the company’s elite photographer pool. Amazon surpasses Microsoft in market value for the first time  Amazon's market value — its closing share price multiplied by the number of shares outstanding — rose to $702.5 billion on Wednesday, and for the first time passed Microsoft, which is worth $699.2 billion as of the close of trading. Only Apple and Alphabet are now ahead of Amazon among the most valuable companies in the world.  - CNBC

UK blames Russia for cyber attack, says won't tolerate disruption  Britain blamed Russia on Thursday for a cyber-attack last year, publicly pointing the finger at Moscow for spreading a virus which disrupted companies across Europe including UK-based Reckitt Benckiser. The so-called NotPetya attack in June started in Ukraine where it crippled government and business computers before spreading around the world, halting operations at ports, factories and offices.  - Reuters

Tech Luminary Peter Thiel Parts Ways With Silicon Valley  Billionaire investor Peter Thiel is relocating his home and personal investment firms to Los Angeles from San Francisco and scaling back his involvement in the tech industry, people familiar with his thinking said, marking a rupture between Silicon Valley and its most prominent conservative.
