WhatsApp hits 1B daily users while its Snapchat clone rockets to 250M  Facebook's WhatsApp is winning the race to bring its "Stories" format to the rest of the world before its originator does. WhatsApp Status, which is a similar interface as Snapchat Stories, now has 250 million daily active users, and the company's core of text messaging has driven WhatsApp to 1 billion total daily users and 1.3 billion monthly users. - Tech Crunch

eBay will soon let you shop using photos  The fall Ebay is expected to roll out a new feature that uses image matching to help customers search for products they might not be able to describe by using a deep learning model called a convolutional neural network to process the images. - The Verge

U.S. indicts suspected Russian 'mastermind' of $4 billion bitcoin laundering scheme  A U.S. jury indicted a Russian man on Wednesday as the operator of a digital currency exchange he allegedly used to launder more than $4 billion for people involved in crimes ranging from computer hacking to drug trafficking. - Reuters

Twitter added zero new users last quarter  Twitter reported earnings Thursday morning, claiming 328 million total users — the same number it reported after Q1. Analysts had been hoping the company added around 4 million new users last quarter. - Recode
